All entrepreneurs should experience self care. Working 24/7 is not healthy, it is important to take breaks and focus on your mental and physical self. Setting aside time to comfort yourself has many perks. It can boost your productivity, creativity, and mental health. Also, it allows you to be a positive role model for your employees and it is always important to lead by example. It would be irresponsible of you to neglect your wellness.
A business owner who does not make time for self care could feel burnout causing the business to not reach its full potential. Being mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted is not the best position for anyone to be in, let alone an entrepreneur. Other effects of not properly taking care of yourself are depression, irritability, and high stress. Raised blood pressure, heart disease, chest pains and migraines are health issues that could result from stress itself.
On one’s journey of creating their personalized self care routine they will go through the three R’s: rest, relaxation and recreation. First, rest. Your body functions better when well rested. It is recommended to get six to eight hours of sleep every night. Power naps are needed throughout the day as well, even if its just 10-20 minutes. Also, give yourself time to slow down. Take a few minutes to be with yourself. Next, relaxation. Find whats relaxing to you, using your five senses (taste, smell, touch, sight and hearing). Listening to music, smelling flowers, drinking tea or taking a warm bath are all examples of relaxation methods. Last, recreation. Learn to have fun! You don’t have to be great at everything, just enjoy it. Activities such as painting, knitting, running, skydiving or even trying a new restaurant are ways to have fun.
In the demanding world of entrepreneurship, prioritizing self-care isn't just a luxury, but a necessity for sustained success and well-being. Neglecting your mental and physical health can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and serious health issues. By embracing a personalized self-care routine that includes rest, relaxation, and recreation, entrepreneurs can recharge their energy, foster creativity, and set a positive example for their teams. Remember, investing in your own well-being isn't selfish; it's a strategic decision that ensures both personal fulfillment and the long-term success of your business endeavors.
